Join NowOver past 20+ years, my wife and I have seen Pertubuhan Kebajikan Anak Yatim Mary Kuala Lumpur grow in the number of children and their needs.
It is always encouraging to see the children flourish in a structured stable environment filled with love and care. Malar and her team have created a "home away from home" for these children.
We pray that this home will continue to be a symbol of hope for the children to grow in faith, hope and with dignity on their journey to adulthood.
Home is where a child feels they belong – that’s what resonates with me when I look back at the nine years I spent at Pertubuhan Kebajikan Anak Yatim Mary Kuala Lumpur. I arrived there after a hard choice my parents made due to some difficult circumstances from my childhood. At first, the home was simply a place to sleep and exist, but it soon became much more.
The caregivers and children became my family, and I found a true sense of belonging. I thrived especially after I was given a responsibility – their trust in me allowed me to realise my worth and show I had something to offer. I believe the same grounding that I got is also available to the current group of children in the home and future inhabitants.
I’m most grateful for Ms. Malar. Her love, support, and belief in me changed my life, and I’ll always cherish her.
I came from a family that faced severe financial hardships. My early childhood was a fairly nomadic one, struggled to meet basic needs, which left us unable to attend school. When I was eight, I was brought to this home. It was that turning point of my life – I now had safety, stability, and most importantly, the chance to study. For the first time, I stepped into a classroom and felt hope. With the home’s support, and especially under Mummy’s guidance, I pursued my education and proudly earned a Diploma in Early Childhood Education.
I came from a very poor family that struggled to meet even our basic needs. We had no stable home, and I couldn’t go to school like other children. Life was incredibly difficult, but everything changed when I was brought to this home at the age of 7. For the first time, I had a safe place to live, food to eat, and the chance to study. The most life-changing moment was being able to attend school—it gave me hope and a reason to believe in myself. With love, support, and constant encouragement from Mummy and everyone at the home, I worked hard and proudly earned my certificate. I’m now completing my Diploma in Computer System Administration—something I once thought was impossible. This home didn’t just give me shelter; it gave me a second chance, a future, and a family. I will always be grateful to Mummy for believing in me and helping me grow.
I (Stephanie) came back to Malaysia in 2019 after having lived most of my life overseas. Having the chance to "restart" at everything again, I wanted to do something more with my life other than just work my way until retirement. So on one ordinary day, I went on google map and just out of curiosity searched for "orphanage", then this Mary home showed up and it was quite close to where I live. So me and my parents paid a visit to check out this place together, and we went back again after some time, and again, and again, and we haven't stopped visiting since.
I came, l saw the home and felt compelled to support these children in their needs.
